Set up Auto-Tracking on AV-2040 / AV-2046

AV-2040AV-2046
1Open the Camera’s Web Interface

1. Connect the camera and your computer to the same network via Ethernet cable.

2. Find the camera’s IP address. The factory default is 192.168.1.188.
(Tip: connect the camera to a monitor via HDMI/SDI and power-cycle it, then the camera’s current IP will show up on screen briefly. Or open the on-screen menu with the IR remote: MENU → IP Settings.)

3. Configure your computer’s network settings to be in the same IP range as the camera:

  • IP address: 192.168.1.x (replace x with any number from 2 to 254, except 188)
  • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
  • Default gateway: 192.168.1.1

4. Open a web browser and type the camera’s IP address. Log in with the default username: admin and password: admin.

Note: On the Web UI Preview page, you can quickly turn auto tracking on or off using the Tracking Control panel on the right. For more detailed configuration, go to Settings → Auto Tracking Settings, as shown below.

2Configure Presenter Tracking Mode

In Settings → Auto Tracking Settings, set the following, then toggle Auto Tracking ON. The camera will lock onto the person and keep them framed as they move.

Setting Explanation
Auto Tracking The main ON/OFF switch. Turn it ON after configuring the settings below.
Target Position Determines where the presenter appears in the frame: Left, Center, or Right. Select your preferred position and click Active to apply it.
Target Scale Controls how large the presenter appears in the frame. Options include 1/6, 1/8, 1/10, 1/12, 1/16, 1/20, and Full Body. For reference, 1/6 provides a close-up of the head and shoulders, while 1/12 gives a wider view of the upper body.
Lock Scaling Ratio Turn this ON to keep the zoom level more consistent as the presenter moves, providing a smoother and more comfortable viewing experience.
Target Lost Timeout Sets how long the camera waits (2–10 seconds) before returning to its home position after the presenter leaves the frame.
Target Switching When two people are in the frame, click Left or Right to switch the tracking target. If more than two people are present, zoom in on the person you want to track, then zoom out and switch targets.
3Setup Tracking Zone

This feature creates a safe zone for auto tracking. The camera tracks the presenter only within the defined area. If the presenter moves outside the zone, the camera stops tracking and returns to its home position. This is useful for preventing the camera from turning toward doorways or the audience.

How to Set Up the Tracking Zone

  1. Turn OFF Auto Tracking and Pan/Tilt Limit.
  2. Using the on-screen PTZ control arrows, aim the camera at the top-left corner of your desired zone, then click Left Up to save the position.
  3. Aim the camera at the bottom-right corner, then click Right Down to save the position. A double-arrow icon will appear next to each button to confirm that the position has been saved. Click the icon anytime to check the saved position.
  4. Turn ON Pan/Tilt Limit, then turn ON Auto Tracking. The camera will now track the presenter only within the defined zone.

To Clear a Saved Position: Click the corresponding Left Up or Right Down button once to delete that saved position.

4Set the Home Position

The home position is where the camera returns when the presenter is no longer detected, after the Target Lost Timeout expires.

  1. Turn OFF Auto Tracking.
  2. Use the on-screen PTZ controls or IR remote to aim the camera at your preferred default view.
  3. Click Initial Position Set to save the position. The button will turn darker blue, and a double-arrow icon will appear to confirm that the position has been saved.
  4. Turn Auto Tracking ON. The camera will now automatically return to this position whenever the tracking target is lost.

To Change the Home Position: Click Initial Position Set again to delete the saved position, then repeat the steps above to set a new one.

5Set a blackboard no-track area

This feature defines an area where horizontal tracking movement is disabled, such as a teacher standing in front of a whiteboard. When the presenter is inside the designated zone, the camera holds its position. Tracking resumes when the presenter moves outside the zone, helping maintain a stable view for the audience.

Important: Turn OFF both Auto Tracking and Blackboard Area Detection before configuring the zone.

  1. Turn OFF Auto Tracking and Blackboard Area Detection.
  2. Use the PTZ controls to frame the desired zone, then click Board Position0 to save it. Use Board Position1 to configure a second zone. A double-arrow icon will appear to confirm that the position has been saved.
  3. Turn Blackboard Area Detection ON, then turn Auto Tracking ON.

To Clear a Saved Zone: Click the corresponding Board Position0 or Board Position1 button once to delete the saved position.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Camera won’t track? Make sure Auto Tracking is ON and the presenter is clearly visible and well-lit.
  • Tracking is jumpy? Turn ON Lock Scaling Ratio and increase the Target Scale slightly (for example, change from 1/16 to 1/12).
  • Camera keeps moving toward the edges? Configure a Pan/Tilt Limit (Section 3) to restrict the tracking area.
  • Can’t access the web interface? Confirm that the camera and computer are on the same IP range (192.168.1.x) and that the Ethernet link light is active.
  • A limit or zone won’t save? Make sure Auto Tracking and the corresponding feature are turned OFF while configuring the settings.
